COLLIES
Why Get A Collie?
Collies, both Rough and Smooth, are identical by standard outside of coat type. Not to be confused with the Border Collie, Collies rose to prominence through the works of Albert Payson Terhune and the Lassie franchise. These dogs are the underrated family dog, possessing a calm demeanor with low-to-moderate exercise needs.

These dogs are versatile, willing and capable of participating in all variety of sports and activities, including herding, obedience, agility, scent detection, and canicross. Not as intense as other breeds, they veer towards a natural off-switch, going from couch to 5k and back to couch with ease. Often sought out as service dogs, Collies adapt well to new situations, and are not prone to human, dog, or same sex aggression.

They do have some 'negative' aspects to take into consideration:
- Grooming requirements. Rough coats benefit from daily brushing to prevent matting, and both Smooth and Rough varieties shed.
- Barking. This breed loves to make noise! Training can certainly curb a lot of the nuisance barking, but I do not recommend someone seek out a Collie with hopes that it will be a silent dog.
